Week 1 of my Fashion Detox 10 Week Challenge has flown by and honestly, a few things have taken me by surprise.
If you’ve been following my Instagram you will have already seen all of this weeks outfits and I know what you’ll be thinking, ‘you wear those clothes all the time anyway’. You would be right.
For week 1, I’ll admit, I played it very safe, picking my favourite go-to items that I KNOW I can easily make an outfit out of.
But I think that is the key. It’s always about starting off simple and slow.
I don’t want to speak too soon as I still have 9 more weeks to go, but picking 6 items was actually a lot easier than I thought.
My outfit for Day 1 was pretty plain. It was more comfort than anything else.
But using staple colours like these is perfect because you know you have endless amounts of matching items. And of course, accessories.
Day 2 again was a little bit more out-there with my patterned trousers. But trousers like these are, I think, essential for any wardrobe. Put these on and immediately, you have your statement item and you don’t really need much else.
Again, a black bodysuit is a must have. I have never owned an item that I have worn more, aside from my Heelies when I was younger but who didn’t.
Day 3 was another pretty lazy outfit, if I do say so myself.
I put my brown jumper with my black flare trousers for a really comfortable outfit and I matched it with my sisters hairband just to add a little bit more colour.
For this outfit, I paired my white jumper with my black jeans and added a little double buckled belt. You could leave it with just the jumper and the jeans if you wanted.
Because this jumper is slightly cropped, it makes it so easy to wear with high waisted jeans, which I think are a must-have in your wardrobe. Personally, I prefer high waisted as I think you can easily pair them with tops that might be a little bit more cropped but that’s just my style.
Day 5 was difficult for me because I had to do the one thing that I have always had a fear off. Wear something 2 days in a row.
BUT I did it and it wasn’t as horrific as I imagined.
So week 1 is over
In all honesty, I didn’t find it as hard as I thought I would. I don’t want to speak to soon though.
This week, I conquered a fear of mine (as irrational as it may be), wearing the same item of clothing in a short enough period of time that people will remember. Crazy, I know. But I did it!
I’ve listed some tips that made this week a hell of a lot easier for me.
Pick in outfits
By this I mean envision an outfit as you pick the clothes. Can you see this item with a lot of other things in your wardrobe?
If yes, then amazing! If not, then you probably aren’t going to wear it all that often and before you know, it will be stuck in the dark corner of your wardrobe where all the ‘might wear’ clothes are.
I LOVE colours. I really do. But by this, I mean pick items in colours you would wear. If it’s a daring red, absolutely go for it if you think it will be something you will get use out of, or even if it’s something you will pull out of your wardrobe on occasion and really feel fabulous in.
But try not to pick colours that you know don’t go with you or will be really hard to match (although clashing colours can be really cool but we can talk about that another time).
To be honest, this tip will probably be featured a lot. I am HUGE on accessories as the key to changing up an outfit.
I think an accessory can make or break your outfit and can also change an outfit from plain to standout.
It’s all about wearing what you’re comfortable with but don’t be afraid to use your accessories to step your outfit up a level.
